The Re.Ma.Plast awarded to “Bando CONAI per la prevenzione”

Very important recognition for RE.MA.PLAST at the 2019 edition of the “CONAI Call for Prevention – Enhancing the environmental sustainability of packaging”, held on November 14th at the Milan Triennale, aimed at enhancing the most innovative and eco-sustainable packaging solutions placed on the market in 2017-2018. 86 cases were awarded, of which 9 special awards, among the 245 presented. Companies that, in the 2017-2018 two-year period, have invested in prevention activities aimed at the environmental sustainability of their packaging have participated in the Call for Bids, acting on at least one of the following levers: re-use, facilitation of recycling activities, saving of raw materials, use of materials coming from recycling, optimization of logistics, simplification of the packaging system and optimization of production processes. All the applications were analyzed using a simplified Life Cycle Assessment tool, using the CONAI Eco Tool that allows the calculation of the effects of the prevention actions implemented by companies on their packaging in terms of energy savings, through a simplified LCA analysis , of saving water and reducing CO2 emissions.
Both the Eco Tool CONAI tool and the methods applied to determine the list of awarded cases were subjected to validation by DNV-GL, third certification body.
The 2019 edition of the CONAI Call has seen the interventions of the candidate companies focus above all on saving raw materials, with a percentage of almost 40%. Almost 20%, instead, has focused on the use of recycled material; the same percentage opted instead for innovative logistics interventions. A series of innovative sustainability actions involving all six supply chain packaging materials of the consortium system (those of steel, aluminum, paper, wood, plastic and glass), and which have made a concrete contribution to the development of the economy circulate in our country.
